VENUE PROGRAMME NOTE:
“Julia Fischer plays the Violin Concerto in a fresh, rousing and energetic way, with a wide range of tones and a fantastic technique. Her Tchaikovsky sounds soulful and romantic without becoming sentimental” – this was the enthusiastic review by the BR of Julia Fischer’s outstanding recording of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in 2006. Almost 20 years later, the violin virtuoso is still one of the best interpreters of this work, which places the highest demands on the soloist with breakneck cascades of sound and emotional force. Since her spectacular victory as an eleven-year-old virtuoso at the Menuhin Competition in 1995, Julia Fischer has been an integral part of the classical music scene and is one of the top violin elite worldwide. Her technique is impressive, her transparent, pure tone captivating, but even more important to her is artistic expression. When it comes to shaping masterful violin literature into great concert experiences, conductor Vasily Petrenko is often at their side, as is the case with Pro Arte.
This season we welcome the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and its chief conductor. The orchestra, founded after the war by the legendary Sir Thomas Beecham and the only one to be knighted by Queen Elizabeth, is one of the five major symphony orchestras in London. In addition to the claim to present artistic quality at the highest level, passion and versatility are trademarks of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
