2026 Academy for Young Conductors gets underway with Vasily Petrenko

22 Jun, 2026

This week, Vasily Petrenko is leading the 2026 Academy for Young Conductors in Yerevan, Armenia. With applications received from young conductors spanning 22 countries, Vasily reflects on his work for the week ahead – he comments: My job there is not to judge, it is to help. And I know from the first edition that our process works – as several of those participants have gone on to professional engagements since. I want to give the six we select this year the same thing, something they can actually use. The level of international interest for this year’s Academy tells you something about how much young conductors want this kind of training – and how few real opportunities exist for them.”
