This August, Vasily Petrenko will conduct the Verbier Festival Orchestra at the Verbier Festival. Looking ahead to the performance, Vasily comments: “Verbier is one of the great summer festivals in Europe, and when you are there, you feel it. The calibre of musicians in one place at one time is remarkable. Everyone is either performing or has come to hear someone perform. This year I am conducting the Verbier Festival Orchestra in a programme of Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev, with Alexander Kantorow as soloist. He is one of the most exciting young pianists working today, and he is someone I have wanted to perform with again. When you work with musicians at that stage of their careers, there is a fire and an appetite that is genuinely infectious. It gets into the room. That is what Verbier is like at its best, and I think this concert will be that.”
