Vasily Petrenko has been announced as Director Asociado (Associate Conductor) at the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, starting in the 2022-23 season. The orchestra made the announcement when unveiling its new season, and he will remain in the role for at least three seasons, sharing it with Elim Chan. Commenting on his appointment and his relationship with the orchestra, Vasily said:

“The Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León is a wonderful ensemble with which I have developed a close relationship for twenty years. I am excited to continue to push her forward in this new role as Associate Conductor. Our collaborations will continue to contribute to the overall strategy of the orchestra, with an annual program for at least the next three seasons, starting in this new 2022-23 season. During this period, we will present the fundamental works of the symphonic repertoire to our beloved public in Castilla y León and, with the aim of finding an element that gives unity to these collaborations and thus reinforces one of the many social objectives of the orchestra, We have decided that every year I will invite a young Spanish soloist to perform with us. In this way, both the orchestra and I will use this initiative to promote young talent, an especially important fact in the new generations of musicians in Spain. With this stupendous prospect in sight, I look forward to returning, very soon, to Valladolid, with all of you.”

Vasily will return to conduct the orchestra for the first time in his new role on 15 and 16 June 2023. More information is available here: https://www.oscyl.com/evento/programa-18-temporada-22-23-oscyl-turno-1/
