Kölner Philharmonie Programme Note:
“I’m crazy about my job.” Even if this quote is from André Previn, Anne-Sophie Mutter would probably endorse it as well. Because the star violinist and the universal musician Previn were not only temporarily connected through a marriage, but also through their shared passion for music. André Previn was a miracle of artistic versatility, an exceptional musician whose creativity hardly knew any limit. His violin concerto “Anne-Sophie”, composed in 2005, is tailor-made for the violinist: With her powerful tone and her beyond doubt virtuosity, she knows how to develop the lyrical brilliance of the high registers like no other, To play with unusual intervals or to explore the horizon between dazzling contrasts and outbursts of emotions that are captivating in their clarity. With Leonard Bernstein’s overture to “Candide” and Sergej Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances op. 45, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra playfully rounds off the program and shows once again that the artists of this evening have mastered the tightrope between diverging soundscapes with virtuoso ease.
