Programme:
Clara Schumann: Piano Concerto
Beethoven: Symphony No. 7 in A major, Op. 92
Discover Clara Schumann’s remarkable Piano Concerto, begun when she was just 14, in the company of one of the composer’s most devoted interpreters.
Pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason first rose to prominence as one of her family’s seven remarkable musical siblings and has since forged a hugely successful solo career. She has long championed the music of Clara Schumann, most prominently in her much-admired 2019 disc devoted to the composer’s music.
Russian-born conductor Vasily Petrenko and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra close with the unstoppable rhythms of Beethoven’s joyful Seventh Symphony. Born in Russia, but now calling the UK home, Vasily Petrenko put the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra firmly on the map during his 15 years as Chief Conductor. This coming season, he launches a new chapter as Music Director of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the UK’s most versatile and widely travelled orchestras – and the ideal canvas for Petrenko’s fiery, edgy performances.
Famously dubbed ‘the apotheosis of the dance’ by fellow composer Wagner, Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony’s unstoppable rhythms will propel you through its drama, its humour and its wonder.
