Programme Note

She is virtuoso, she is passionate: the young Georgian star pianist Khatia Buniatishvili plays with a special touch, exploring the boundless intoxication of music is capable of. “I like what the adrenaline does to me on stage. It’s like a magical moment, like when you’re hypnotized and you can’t lie anymore.” Emotionality plays a major role for the pianist, because Buniatishvili penetrates works and composers with her individuality and shows her multifaceted nature. Khatia Buniatishvili has a very personal connection to Tchaikovsky’s first piano concertoas it was the first piano concerto that she performed publicly at the age of 18: “I remember exactly how the warm sound of the strings enveloped me for the first time, the wind instruments seemed to carry me – it was like in a dream, a magical feeling that I will never forget!” Today it is considered one of the most popular piano concertos in the world and is the most frequently recorded of its genre. Experience the keyboard virtuoso together with Vasily Petrenko in his first season as Music Director of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and look forward to a program full of voluptuous romance and rousing rhythms.
